1. A hydraulic pump generates 240W and supplies hydraulic fluid at a rate of 5.1l/min to a linear actuator which has a bore size of 50 mm and a double piston rod diameter of 20mm. If the efficiency of the system is 85%, determine:

(a) The pressure exerted on the piston

(b) The force on the piston

(c) The velocity pf the piston

2.  A hydraulic linear actuator with a bore size of 110mm and a piston rod diameter of 30mm is to transmit a force of 8.8kN and move with a velocity of 12m/min.

Determine:

(a) The power in kW

(b) The fluid pressure

(c) The fluid flow-rate

3. (i) In a hydraulic system, fluid is pumped at a rate of 36l/min. The diameter of the main supply is 32mm and at the user point, it is 16mm diameter. Determine the velocity through the pipes.

(ii) If the system in

(i) drives a 40mm diameter hydraulic actuator, calculate the speed of the actuator in mm/min.
