In some classes (cyclostomes, amphibians and osteichthyes fishes) there is larval stage. With rare exceptions, amphibians, fishes, monotreme and reptiles mammals are oviparous, egg-laying (embryos develop outside the mother's body and within eggs) and marsupial and placental mammals are viviparous (embryos develop inside the mother's body, feeding from her).
