How can we obtain boron, Chemistry

Assignment Help:

Q. How can we obtain Boron?

Boron is- obtained by the red-action of B2O3 with magnesium or sodium B203 is first prepared by strongly katingH3B03 which is obtained by the action of HCI or H2S04 - on a concentrated solution of borax:

NA2B4O7 + 2HCl + 5H2O------------------> 4H3BO3+ 2NaCl

2H3BO3---------------------------------> B2O3+ 3H2O

B2O3+ 3Mg------------------------------> 2B + 3MgO

Pure crystalline boron may be obtained in small quantities by the reduction of BBr3, with H2 on a heated tantalum metal filament at 1275-1475 K.
