gsm alarm system with video surveillance, Other Engineering

i am building the above mentioned system and i intend using an arduino board together with the gsm shield. my problem is i don''t know if there is a way i can control a camera by preset instructions on the board for the system and as well as the specific types of arduino board and gsm sheld to get. Does the camera control function require a different board too? if so, can i control any camera/ All i need the camera to do is record for about three mins when the motion detector goes off
