Give the causative organism and symptoms of Bacillary Dysentery

• Bacillary dysentery is caused by  Shigella sp. (Shigella sonnei, S. dysenteraei).

  • Incubation period is about 1 to 7 days.
  • Causes abdominal pain, cramps, and inflammation of intestinal mucousa, diarrhoea, vomiting, nausea and fever.
  • In severe cases; intestinal bleeding, electrolytic imbalance, ulceration, kidney failure and jaundice.
