Friction is Undesirable:

A friction is undesirable at the time of ice skating or when the block is lifted or put down on the truck with the help of inclined plane. If friction is more between block and inclined surface, then large force is required to push block on plane.

Thus friction is desirable or undesirable that depends upon the situation and types of work.
