Explain the Ethnocentrism and Stereotyping?

a) Ethnocentrism is the tendency to judge all other groups according to your own groups standards, behaviors and customs and to see other people as inferior by comparison.

b) Stereotyping is the effort to categorize individuals by trying to assume their behavior or character on the basis of their membership in a particular group.

c) To overcome ethnocentrism and stereotyping :

  • avoid assumptions
  • avoid judgements
  • acknowledge distinctions.
