The skeletal muscle of fish consists of short fibers arranged between sheets of connective tissue. The connective tissue in the fish muscle is less than that in mammalian tissue and the fibers are comparatively shorter. The myofibrils of fish muscles have a striated appearance similar to that of a mammalian muscle and contain the same major proteins, myosin, actin, actomyosin and tropomyosin.
