Explain Caspofungin

It is available only for intravenous administration and is FDA-approved for treatment of esophageal candidiasis, candidemia, and intra-abdominal abscesses, peritonitis, and pleural space infections because of Candida. It is also indicated for empirical treatment of presumed fungal infections in febrile, neutropenic patients and treatment of invasive aspergillosis in patients who are refractory to or intolerant of other therapies. Caspofungin is active against Candida spp. and Aspergillus spp., but not Cryptococcus neo- formans.
