Explain about the Chemical Carcinogens?
Chemicals have been shown to be carcinogenic. Some are naturally occurring components of plants and microbial organisms. Some are synthetic products created by industry. Chemical carcinogens can be classified into two general categories based on the ability of compounds to bind to DNA.
Compounds that bind to DNA are genotoxic, whereas compounds that are carcinogenic, but have no evidence of DNA binding are termed epigenetic. Some of the major chemical carcinogens are alkylating agents, acylating agents, and aromatic amines. Aflatoxin B, Betel nuts, nitrosamines and amides, vinyl chloride, nickel, chromium insecticide and fungicide are also some of the chemical carcinogens. Tobacco, smoking, drug abuse are also known to cause cancers.
