Selection of healing abutment
It is done depending upon the tissue thickness. Tissue thickness can be measured similar to ridge mapping or sounding procedure, wherein after anesthetizing the tissue with local infiltration a sharp probe or preferably a graduated probe such as a periodontal probe is penetrated to hit the crestal bone and the with the help of a stopper or a marker the tissue height can be marked and measured after removing the probe. It is best advised to use a healing abutment which is longer than the tissue thickness by at least one to two millimetres but not long enough so as to interfere with occlusion.
