Why is Multiplexer Tree needed? Draw the block diagram of a 32:1 Multiplexer Tree and explain how input is directed to the output in this system.
Ans. One of the possible methods is demonstrated for 32 to 1 MUX, using two 16 to 1 MUX and OR Gate.
Diagram of a 32 to 1 MUX
There is two 16 to 1 MUX M1 and M2 containing data inputs 0.....15 and 16.....31 correspondingly. The selection lines are S3 S2 S1 S0 that is capable to select one input among 16 inputs. Here the strobe pin is utilized as fifth selection line which is if it is 0 than one input between the upper MUX is selected and if A = 1, than one between the data input of lower MUX is selected. The output of both the MUX is O Red.
