Estimate Future Capacity Requirements:

An electronic packaging centre operates 250 days per year, with one eight hour shift. Management believes that a capacity cushion of 15 % is best. Currently it has three packaging machines. Find out how many machines are required at the packaging centre.

Solution

M = [2000 ( 0.5 )+(2000/20) ( 0.25 )] client X + [6000 ( 0.7)+(6000/30) ( 0.40)] client Y /  (250 days /year ) (1 shift/day) (8 hours /shift) ( 1 -(15/100))

= 5305/1700

= 3.12 ≈ 4

Rounding up to the nearest integer gives a requirement of four machines.
