Discuss classification of conducting materials into low resistivity and high resistivity materials.
Conducting materials are categorized as low resistivity materials and high resistivity materials.
1. Low resistivity materials: The conducting materials containing resistivity from 10-8 to 10-6 ohm-m come under this class and are used in distribution and transmission lines, transformers and motor windings.
Illustrations are: Copper, Aluminium and Gold
2. High resistivity materials: The conducting materials containing resistivity from 10-6 to 10-3 ohm-m come under such category and is used for making resistance components for heating devices, rheostats and precision instruments.
Examples are: Constantian, Nichrome and Mangnesium.
