Difference between Mesomerism and Resonance
Even though both resonance and mesomerism denote similar phenomenon, they are different in the following respect:
Resonance includes all types of electron displacements when mesomerism is noticeable only in those cases in which a multiple bond is in conjugation with a multiple bond or lone pair of electron.
