Pre-conditions for GTT
You are advised to carry out the GTT (OGTT) test to confirm a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus for a person with:
a) The history of glycosuria (glucose in urine) which may be persistent or occasional. This group of people may not have clinical symptoms of diabetes such as Polyuria, Polyphagia, and Polydipsia & weight loss. Fasting blood sugar and post prandial blood sugar are within normal ranges.
b) The symptoms of diabetes but on urine examination no sugar is detected. Fasting blood sugar is also within normal range.
c) The family history of diabetes as part of a routine medical check up (above 30 years of age)
