Describe the insulation thickness, Mechanical Engineering

Assignment Help:

Q. Describe the Insulation thickness?

Insulation thickness shall be selected in accordance with the following tables forming part of this specification:

Table I Outdoor Hot Service Calcium Silicate Insulation

Table II Outdoor Hot Service Mineral Fibre Insulation

Table III Outdoor Steam Hot Service Calcium Silicate Insulation

Table IV Outdoor Steam Hot Service Mineral Fibre Insulation

Table V Indoor Hot Service Calcium Silicate Insulation

Table VI Indoor Hot Service Mineral Fibre Insulation

Table VII Indoor Steam Hot Service Calcium Silicate Insulation

Table VIII Indoor Steam Hot Service Mineral Fibre Insulation

Table IX Personnel Protection Insulation

Table X Cold Service Insulation

This specification differentiates between Hot Service and Steam Hot Service. The difference between the two is that many hot processes rely on an intermediate fluid, such as steam, as the heat source. Therefore due to additional heat losses involved in providing process heat via an intermediate fluid, process heat loss is more expensive than steam heat loss. By this definition any stream that is heated directly by an efficient fired heater (i.e., 80% gross thermal efficiency or better) can be a candidate for Steam Hot Service insulation.
