Q. What are the Subatomic Particles?
Ans:
What does the inside of atom look like? Following Dalton's discovery that all matter was composed of atoms, scientists wondered if the atom could be broken down into even smaller "pieces." After about 100 years of wondering about the composition of atoms, several scientists were able to confirm by experiment the existence of subatomic particles. These subatomic particles, known as electrons, protons, and neutrons, and are the fundamental pieces which make up all of the atoms that are the building blocks of matter.
Although all of the atoms are composed of these same basic components, they have different numbers and arrangements of these subatomic particles. The four most influential scientists to discover the "pieces" of the atom were: J.J. Thompson, Robert A. Millikan, Ernest Rutherford, and James Chadwick. The work of these pioneers lead to the discovery of the subatomic particles of electrons, protons, and neutrons.
