Patient and his family have to cope up with a critical situation when patient has complications and more so when a patient has to be admitted in a hospital and referred. Some patients and family members adjust fast but some may not since each individual has a different capability of adapting to stressful conditions. You need to learn about coping strategies to help the patient and family to adjust to changing life style and acceptance of the reality. In this unit, you will learn about coping, coping strategies, coping mechanism, coping skills, defense mechanism, psychological impact on the family and guidelines for coping for the patient and the family.
