Water that arises from oxidation of foods within the body, which is referred to as water of oxidation or metabolic water. Water which comes from the oxidation of food is the last source of water. 1 g of starch yields 0.6 g of water; 1 g of protein 0.41g; and 1 g of fat gives 1.07 g of water. This source contributes only about 10% of the total water input. This is also known as water of oxidation / metabolic water The water embedded in the network of glycogen molecules in muscle and liver is made available to the body when it is used as a source of energy. Therefore, in case of athletes using glycogen reserves as a source of energy during intense physical activity, this serves as an additional source of water.
