Under weight individuals generally have depleted lean body mass and poor reserves of amino acids/blood proteins. Thus, the patient may benefit by consuming around 1.2 g per kg body weight of proteins per day. A combination of both animal and plant protein should be incorporated but emphasis should be laid on the inclusion of easy to digest forms of protein such as half boiled egg, steamed/ boiled/sauteed flesh food etc.
