Performance Appraisal:  It is a systematic and impartial assessment of an employee's performance on the job, along with a view to discovering how worse or how well is the job being performed by her or him; as well as unearthing his or her potential for further development.

Dale Yoder explains it as "all formal procedures used in working organizations to evaluate contributions and personalities and potentials of group members."
