It is the taper placed on the pattern surface that are parallel to the direction in which the pattern is withdrawn from the mould, to allow the removal of the patter n without damaging mould cavity. The draft depends upon the method of moulding, the sand mixture used, the design and economic restrictions imposed on the casting.
