Q. Define Maximum Allowable Working Pressure?
The MAWP to be marked on the Section VIII nameplate is defined as the maximum gauge pressure permissible at the top of a completed vessel in its normal operating position at the designated coincident metal temperature for that pressure. This MAWP may be determined from the design pressure or from calculations, based on the specified nominal component thicknesses, reduced by the specified corrosion allowances.
The maximum permissible set-to-operate pressure of a single safety relief device cannot be higher than the MAWP.
A suitable margin consistent with the uncertainties with which the true maximum mean-metal temperature can be determined should be included. The design temperature for vessels shall be the maximum temperature for which a reduction in maximum allowable stress is not required (6500F (3430C) for carbon steel). If there is a limiting appurtenance, vessel design metal temperature shall be the maximum temperature allowed for that appurtenance at design pressure.
The Mechanical Design Engineer/Specialist shall be responsible for mechanical design calculations that are required to ensure that the end product complies with all applicable code
Convert the following readings of pressure to KPa absolute, assuming that the barometer reads 760mm Hg: (a) 100 psig, (b) 8in. Hg vacuum, and (c) 76in Hg gage.

Determine the stress in the meridional direction: A doubly curved shell of thickness 8 mm is filled through a liquid under an internal pressure of 2.0 N/mm 2 . At a specific p
A jet of water moving at 8 m/sec. impinges on a concave-shaped vane to deflect the jet through 120 o when stationary. If the vane is moving at 5 m/sec., calculate the angle of jet
The hardened layer depth is the measure of harden-ability. A good harden-ability will sense even thicker sections are uniformly hardened. Conversely a poor harden-ability will gene
Q. Define Non - consumable electrode? These types of electrodes are prepared from high melting point materials. Mainly carbon, pure tungsten and its alloy are used for electrod
Edge joints: The flanged edge joint is suit- able for plate 1/4 inch or less in thickness and can only sustain light loads. Edge preparation for this joint may be done.
Q. Explain about Surface Preparation? All oil, grease, salts, and any other contaminants detrimental to the formation of a good coating bond or coating quality must be removed
Windmills were traditionally used for processing grains, later they started to be used for electricity production as well. Windmills can also be used to pump water.
