A histogram is a bar graph that gives the frequency of each value. Here are a few examples to illustrate the usefulness of this method of data representation.
Example: Clyde owns a Car Rental store. He records the number of days that each of 30 customers rented cars. Make a frequency table and a histogram for this car rental data:
Solution: Make a frequency table.
Make a histogram by measuring 10 even widths for the number of days of the car rentals. Draw vertical bars to the height of the corresponding frequencies.
What is the mode of this data? Since the highest frequency is 5, the mode is 2 days.
Relative frequency tables are frequency tables that include a column which displays how frequently the data appears relative to the entire data set. The relative frequency is the probability, or percent frequency.
