Define General Nutritional Functions of Minerals?

We hear and talk about minerals almost everyday with regards to maintaining good health. But what are minerals and what functions do they usually perform? Well, a mineral is a solid homogeneous crystalline chemical element or compound that results from the inorganic processes of nature. Different minerals perform their own respective specialized functions and have a variety of roles to perform.
