Define briefly about the Conjugated Proteins?

Conjugated proteins are made up of simple proteins combined with a non- proteinous substance. The non-proteinous substance is known as prosthetic group or cofactor.

Examples:

Chromoproteins: Haemoglobin, in which the prosthetic group is iron.

Phosphoproteins: casein in milk, in which prosthetic group is phosphoric acid, vitellin in egg yolk. Lipoproteins: HDL (high density lipoprotein), LDL (low density lipoprotein) and VLDL (very low density lipoproteins), the prosthetic group is lipid

Glycoprotein: Ovomucoid of egg white.

Nucleoproteins: ribosomes and viruses.

Metalloproteins: alcohol dehydrogenase, a Zn containing enzyme.

Mucoproteins: Follicle stimulating hormone, β- ovomucoid.
