By now you would have a good understanding that nutrient requirements are affected by a number of factors and in order to have adequate nutrient intakes these factors have to be take; into consideration for different population groups. You will recall that earlier we defined positive health as not merely freedom from diseases but a state of complete physical and mental health. In a similar manner, nutrient requirements should be such as to promote optimum health rather than merely to prevent nutritional deficiency disease.
