Explain the Conventional Incineration and Refuse-Derived Fuel Facilities?

1. Conventional (Mass-Fired) Incineration

  • most common form of municipal solid waste (MSW) incineration
  • can accept refuse that has little pre-treatment other than the removal of oversized items (i.e. kitchen stoves, mattresses)

 

2. Refuse-Derived Fuel Facilities

  • combustible portion of solid waste that's been separated from non-combustible portion through various processes (i.e. shredding, screening, air classifying)
