Conditions for geometrical isomerism, Chemistry

Assignment Help:

Conditions for geometrical isomerism:

Compound will depict geometrical isomerism if it fulfils the subsequent two conditions

(i) There should be frozen motion as regards two adjacent atoms in the molecule.

(a) > c=c < frozen motion that is about carbon, carbon double bond in alkenes.

(b)     Frozen rotation that is about carbon, carbon single bond in cycloalkanes.

(c) > c=N- frozen rotation that is about carbon, nitrogen double bond in oxime and imine.

(ii) Both of the replacements on every carbon could be different about which rotation is frozen.

If these two types of conditions are filed, then element will depict geometrical isomerism.

The compounds of the following type will not depict geometrical isomerism.
