In two tautomeric types Nitrous acid found.

Corresponding to these two forms, nitrous acid provides two types of derivatives, that is nitro alkanes and alkyl nitrites.

It is significant to note that nitro alkanes are better considered as nitro derivatives of alkanes, whereas alkyl nitrites are considered as alkyl esters of nitrous acid.
