What are liquid crystals? Give examples.


Liquid crystals are an intermediate state among liquid state and solid state. They exhibit some characteristic properties of both solids and liquids. The liquid crystal state has ?ow properties like ordinary liquids and they show anisotropy and double refraction just such as crystalline solids. Examples are Cholesteryl acetate and cholesteryl benzoate
