Classification of Different Agro-Industrial By-Products

The agro-industrial by-products can be grouped according to the content of nutrients namely:

(i) Energy rich supplements, like molasses from cane and beet, citrus, reject bananas, pine apple waste and by-products, cassava by-products

(ii) Protein rich supplements, like the oilseed meals, fish and meat meals, gram husks, animal organic wastes (cattle, sheep, pig and poultry manure),

(iii) By-products which supply mostly the minerals like bone meals, sea weeds, etc.

(iv) Miscellaneous by-products which supply energy and protein like by-products from the brewery, fruit and vegetable industries.
However, emphasis is given in this chapter to deal with the agro- based industrial by-products such as milling by-products of cereal grains, by-products of major and minor oil seed processing, forest by-products and important unconventional energy and protein rich feed resources of potential availability for their optimum utilization in different livestock species.
