I. A horizontal 500 lb force acts at a point D of crankshaft AB which is held in static equilibrium by a twisting couple and by reactions at A and B. Knowing that the bearings are self-aligning and exert no couples on the shaft, determine (showing all necessary steps leading to calculations), T



A) The normal and shearing stresses at points H and J located at the ends of the vertical and horizontal diameters of transverse section located 2.5 in. to the left of bearing B.



B) The maximum normal stress and the maximum shear stress at H and J, and the inclined plane directions on which they occur. Depict these stresses and inclined plane directions on the Mohr’s circle.
