Calculate the Horizontal Distance

A surveyor's total station measured slope distance near station 3245+26.35 is recorded as 437.380-m with a zenith angle of 118º 48' 07" and a south easterly bearing. The horizontal distance (m) is most nearly:

Solution:        Sketch the statement:

1783_Calculate the Horizontal Distance.png

α = 118º 48' 07" - 90º 00' 00"

α = 28.80

Cos 28.80 =  x/437.38

X = (437.38)(0.8763)

X = 383.276-m
