Show the earth pressure on abutment, Civil Engineering

Assignment Help:

Q. Show the Earth pressure on abutment?

The magnitude of earth pressure coefficient in calculating the earth pressure on bridge abutment reliesconsiderably on the degree of restraint provided by abutment. For illustration active earth pressure is generally adopted for cantilever abutment since there ispossible occurrence of small relieving movements. Though for abutment founded on piles, at-rest earth pressure can be presumed in assessing the earth pressure as abutment is considered to be rigidly supported by piles and is fully restrained against lateral movement.
