A flash butt welding machine is mainly comprised of a

  1. Main frame
  2. Stationary Platen
  3. Moving Platen
  4. Clamping mechanism
  5. Transformer
  6. Tap switch
  7. Electrical controls
  8. Flashing and upsetting mechanisms.


Platens are usually of cast or fabricated steel and some small machines have bronze, cast iron or copper platens.
