Define Basic Calculations during the practical work in Laboratory?

Some basic mathematical formulas and conversion factors are given herewith to help you in your calculations during the practical work.

A molar solution consists of the relative molecular mass (mole) of a substance (in grams) in 1 litre of solution. For instance, a molar solution of sodium chloride contains 58.5 g NaCl in 1 litre, because the molecular mass (one mole) of NaCl is 58.5 (Na atomic mass 23 + Cl atomic mass 35.5).

• 1 millilitre (ml) is one thousandth (10-3 ) of a litre
• 1 microlitre (µl) is one millionth (10-6 ) of a litre
• 1 milligram (mg) is one thousandth (10-3 ) of a gram
• 1 microgram (µg) is one millionth (10-6 ) of a gram
• The term "parts per million" (ppm) is no longer used; it is equivalent to µg/ml

With this we end our study of this practical.
