The patient is a 14-year-old female patient who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 10. She had a semi-syncopal episode during a youth volleyball competition and was found to have a blood sugar of 360. Initially, the reason for her collapse was thought to be an ankle injury. She was transported to the hospital via the ambulance and was treated in the Emergency Department (ED). Then, she was admitted to the Med/Surg unit for further stabilization and treatment. She is currently preparing for discharge and should follow up with her athletic trainer and nurse at school.
