Paper Guidelines
Visual Observation Paper: Please choose one artwork that appealed to you most at the Museum visit. The museum paper should be 4-5 typed pages, explaining: A) what attracted you to the artwork; and B) how your experience of the actual work of art differed from that of the reproduction you have seen in the class. Proceed to discuss in detail C) what you perceive the content of the artwork to be (in other words, what you think this work is about); D) what means or techniques the artist chose to express that content (i.e., use of scale-how large is it? How does the size affect viewers' perception? The work's context-how it was used; how it is carved; if it is painting, then how the paint is applied; colors and type of shapes used; organization of the composition; and E) why the artist might have chosen those means to convey the content in question.
