In one page (double-spaced), write a cost-benefit analysis of Doctor Faustus' decision to sell his soul to the devil. What exactly does Faustus sell or deed? What particularly does he give up? What does he gain in return?

The more specific and materialist you are in your description-especially your description of what Faustus gets-the stronger your analysis will be. Try to avoid (or at least complicate) the obvious theological moral that Faustus gets damnation, that the wages of sin are death. What does damnation look like or amount to in the theatrical world of Marlowe's play? And what else does Faustus' contract with the devil entail? What's the difference between a moral analysis of whether Faustus' decision is right and a cost-benefit analysis of whether Faustus' decision is "worth" it? (You don't need to answer all or any of those questions in your essay, but I'm using them to prompt you to think about Faustus' situation in material and contractual terms)
