SCENARIO: Supporting Mr. Client

You are a recent graduate from the Personal Support Worker Certificate program at Seneca College. You obtain a position as a PSW at the 'Living with Grace' agency working in community care.

You have been assigned to support Mr. Client, a 52-year-old former construction worker who, 8 months ago experienced a head injury at work. The injury left him with permanent vision disturbances and memory loss. As a result, he was forced to stop working and now receives PSW home care support to help with his ADL's.

Mr. Client has been experiencing flashbacks both while awake and asleep. When awake, these flashbacks are often triggered by loud noises. When triggered, his anxiety level increases, and he becomes extremely fearful of being injured again. Lately, these episodes have increased leading to a diagnosis of Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

His family tells you that Mr. Client's personality completely changed after his head injury. He used to be laid back and cheerful, but now he is angry and always talks about the accident that caused his head injury.

You will support Mr. Mann in his home 3 times per week. While there, you perform tasks that are expected of community PSW's.
