Why is it important to understand cultures other than our own? English is a compulsory subject for all Chinese elementary school students; more than 200 million Chinese children study English. By comparison, only about 24,000 U.S. elementary children study Chinese. Why would it be helpful for more U.S. students to study the Chinese language?
