Workplace Scenario:
Mavis (60) has been married to Frank (66) for 43 years. They have 3 children Jono (deceased), Mahali (38) and Catarina (42). She has a good relationship with both girls.
Mavis is currently working 2 days per week at a local primary school. Previously she was 4 days per week however has cut back to be more available to Frank who has been diagnosed with a deteriorating visual condition just prior to his 65th birthday. Frank ceased full time work as a truck driver when his eyes deteriorated and could no longer drive. Frank is now receiving the Seniors Pension as he has turned 65.
Mavis loves handiwork and Frank's interest has been wood turning for most of his adult life and their home is filled with many of their completed works.
Over the past few months Mavis has noticed an increase in Frank's forgetfulness, mood changes and agitation over small matters. Last week Frank became angry and threw a cup at the wall.
Mavis would like to continue with her 2 days of work however is concerned that she may have to be more available to Frank.
Mavis has not discussed her concerns with her daughters as she doesn't want them to worry about their father. Mahali has her own personal issues to deal with and Catarina is working full time so they are unable to assist.
Mavis contacted your service last month to discuss what her options might be for assistance for Frank however she was advised by Jennifer that she did not meet the criteria for assistance. When you discover Mavis' name on the enquiry register you phone Mavis to follow up. Initially Mavis is upset and does not wish to talk however agrees that her and Frank will come in to discuss her options as it appears that they may be eligible.
