I think several of these provisions could be argued as to why evidenced base practice and ethics go hand in hand. Provisions 3,4 and 7 from the Nursing Code of Ethics are the ones that stand out to me, however, the most prominent one I believe is Provision 4. Evidenced based practice, along with patient centered care, is the basis of everything we do as nurses. We have so many policies and procedures that we follow, and it is all based on evidence that shows that this is the best practice for the safety of the patient/nurse. Provision 4 states that the nurse has the responsibility in nursing practice to provide optimal care (American Nurses Association, 2015). If we do not have evidence to support what we are doing and why we are doing it, how can we know that we are providing the patient with the best care? Since we practice with evidence-based care, we can always let the patient and family know that we are doing is backed by evidence. It is our duty to the patient to ensure we are giving the patient the safest and best care possible. Our hospital is constantly having in-services to update.
