Question

Describe the process which was used to implement the change strategy. The process used to implement the change strategy is implementing a standardized bedside shift report protocol such as the SBAR handoff tool. I identified the need to change the shift handover process to improve patient safety and satisfaction and enhance communication among healthcare providers. This was done through a review of patient satisfaction surveys, incident reports, and feedback from staff and patients. I planned to develop a new protocol for bedside shift handovers. This involved consulting with nursing staff, leaders, and patient representatives to ensure the protocol was practical, effective, and patient-centered. The SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) handoff tool was chosen as the standardized protocol due to its proven effectiveness in improving communication and patient safety (Jaber et al., 2022). Once the protocol was developed, all nursing staff were trained on how to use it. This involved role-play scenarios and ongoing support to ensure all staff were comfortable with the new protocol. After training, the new protocol was implemented in the unit, involving nurses conducting shift handovers at the patient's bedside and involving the patient in the process. The final step was to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness.
