On physical assessment, the child appears drowsy and weak, has dry tongue and dry lips, flushed face, and warm forehead and upper extremities. The child has a nonproductive cough and increase in respiratory effort. The rest of the examination is unremarkable. The nurse also checks the child's vital signs, height, and weight.
