Question: In most American cities, which of these is the largest source of air pollution?

-Motor vehicles used for daily commuting . Electricity production at major power plants. Emissions from industrial manufacturing facilities. Aircraft taking off, landing, or taxiing at airports.

-Which of the following situations demonstrate a lack of environmental justice? (select all that apply) The transportation infrastructure in a metropolitan region is built to prioritize as much as possible the rapid flow of motor vehicles from the outer regions to the city center. This results in the construction of highways in urban neighborhoods that are mostly used by suburban residents. The vehicles on the highways create air pollution .

-A city makes frequent repairs to the sewer system in neighborhoods with high property values i.e. residents pay a lot of taxes to the city), but defers preventative maintenance on sewer pipes in a low income area (i.e. less tax money). The low income area has frequent sewage overflows during heavy rains. -A very large National Forest is located 100 miles from a certain city . The forest managers conduct prescribed burns once a year. These are small fires that burn off underbrush , mimicking a natural process , and they help prevent large uncontrolled forest fires from occurring . The prescribed burns are only conducted when the wind blows away from the city. After starting the fires, the wind suddenly changes direction , and the plume of smoke blows across the southern half of the city while people in the northern half are unaffected . This results in many residents seeking medical attention for respiratory distress . -A low mountain ridge runs through the middle of a city. Residents on one side of the ridge receive treated drinking water from a river that flows though the valley. It is too expensive to pump water up and over the ridge, so residents on the other side receive treated drinking water from an underground aquifer. Although both sources of water are safe, the groundwater naturally has more calcium carbonate in it than the river (i.e. it is " harder" and has a distinctive taste). In children, height and reading ability are strongly correlated . What is the most likely explanation for this ? -Increased height causes children to be more intelligent . -Reading more often causes children to be taller . -The relationship between height and reading ability in children is confounded by age. -This is a random coincidence . Which of the following are exposure routes for lead? (select all that apply) -Dietary ingestion -Inhalation -Dermal absorption -Drinking water ingestion
