Question 4: Sydney is a 27-year-old female who lives in Winnipeg, MB. Sydney is 167 cm tall and weighs 54 kg. After graduating from the University of Manitoba, Sydney started working as a Paramedic, a position that can be very stressful, particularly at certain times of the year. Sydney has been married to her husband Hank for the past 2 years and they have been discussing starting a family. As such, Sydney has a busy life, but she is also dealing with a specific health issue.
At the age of 19, Sydney was diagnosed with Celiac Disease, a condition that is normally managed through dietary modifications. She has tried to maintain strict adherence to the recommended dietary pattern for Celiac management as her disease symptoms become very pronounced if she doesn't. However, Sydney does not routinely take any dietary supplements as she prefers to acquire her nutrients from foods alone. Given the specific foods that Sydney has to avoid, what challenges does this avoidance pose for her desire to have a healthy pregnancy? What advice would you give to Sydney?
