You are a new nurse in an outpatient mental health clinic. Mr. F., age 55, presents himself today. He has been feeling uncomfortable at work. He is experiencing lightheadedness, trembling, and nervousness, especially in the lunchroom. Recently he has had the same feelings when going to restaurants. The symptoms started approximately 6 months ago. He comes to you today with concerns about work missed, and is worried about losing his job.
1. During your interview/assessment with Mr. F. what priority data do you want to determine?
2. Provide two questions you would ask Mr. F. to gather more information about the situation.
During the interview, Mr. F. complains of being exhausted, feeling tense and irritable, and "caged-up" all the time. Mr. F. states "I'm going crazy". "I'm afraid I'm going to lose my job!" You also notice Mr. F. has difficulty sitting still, constantly is wiggling his left leg and rubs his hands together during the interview.
Mr. F. tells you he has also experienced frequent diarrhea, for which he has seen his medical doctor. He had an endoscopy and all was found to be within normal limits. You find out that his 60 year old brother died 9 months ago from prostate cancer with metastasis to the colon.
